About us
Young Ghanaians learning Parliament by doing it
The YGI Parliament is the youth parliament of the Youth Government Initiative, run by UNYA-GH, the United Nations Youth Association, Ghana. It mirrors Ghana's own Parliament: a Speaker, officers of the House, committees and Members who represent constituencies in all 16 regions.

Our purpose
Why the Initiative exists
Most young people learn about government from a textbook. In the YGI Parliament, they learn by doing the work: drafting motions, debating in plenary, serving on committees and leading outreach that makes a difference where they live.
Every office belongs to the Parliament, not to the person holding it. When a term ends, the records stay behind for the next holder, so each generation of leaders builds on the last.

Membership
What members do
- Take the Oath of Office and represent a constituency for a full term
- Debate motions in plenary and vote on behalf of their constituency
- Serve on committees that lead inquiries and outreach in schools and communities
- Organise as the Majority or Minority caucus, with leaders and whips
- Stand for office as committee chair, whip, deputy speaker or Speaker
- Hand over records and lessons to the next term when theirs ends
How it works
How the YGI Parliament works
Like Ghana's own Parliament, the House is led by a Speaker, does its work in plenary and in committees, and is organised into a Majority and a Minority caucus.

The Speaker
Presides over every sitting, keeps order and protects the rules of the House.
- Sets up the Vetting Committee
- Issues rulings on procedure

Plenary
All Members of Parliament meet to debate motions and vote on behalf of their constituencies.
- Motions, statements and questions
- Every MP votes once

Committees
Smaller groups of MPs study issues in depth, lead outreach and report back to the House.
- Inquiries and community work
- Reports tabled in plenary

Caucuses
The Majority and Minority caucuses organise members, with leaders and whips in each.
- Majority and Minority leaders
- Whips keep attendance and discipline
